GUEST
“A watercolorist, graphic designer, and plant enthusiast, I am a certified Natural Science Illustrator from the University of Washington.
My artwork is an effort to show what is not seen at first glance; a spotlight on what is beautiful, stark, and serene. I have a great affection for painting a plant that tells a deeper story; an important part of human life, diet, culture, and landscape. Painting plants that double as food ingredients, beverages, or have medicinal uses as well as being beautiful is the most rewarding, and I have found that people can have a more concrete connection with the artwork when they can relate it to their own memories and surroundings.”

🌿BOTANICAL JARGON:
Microbiome- the genetic material of all the microbes - bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses - that live on and inside the human body.
Bonsai- is a horticultural art form using cultivation techniques to produce, in containers, small trees that mimic the shape and scale of full size trees.
Mycelium or Mycelia- is the vegetative part of a fungus or fungus-like bacterial colony, consisting of a mass of branching, thread-like hyphae.
Pollinator- is an animal that causes plants to make fruit or seeds. They do this by moving pollen from one part of the flower of a plant to another part. This pollen then fertilizes the plant. Only fertilized plants can make fruit and/or seeds, and without them, the plants cannot reproduce.
🌿PLANTS MENTIONED:
Solanum tuberosum (Potato)
Maize (Corn)
Camellia sinensis (Tea Plant)
