In this Episode of Among the Jungle Podcast we re-visit Alaska to chat with Tanya Val, Natural Ink Artist and Owner, of our beloved local plant shop "That Feeling Co" to reveal the process of watercolor ink making with plant materials both foraged and forgotten as we learn to make our own homemade inks with leaves, berries, flower petals, kitchen waste and so much more!

🌿BASIC INK RECIPE:
WHAT YOU NEED:
Water & Salt & Vinegar & Plant Material of Choice (1-cup or 2-cups)
Boiling Pot & Masher & Strainer & Container to Hold Inks
Paper to dip and sample inks
PROCESS:
PREPARE TO HAVE FUN!
Gather items and select plant material to use
Put plant material in pot and cover with water
Bring pot to boil
Add Salt (dash) & White Vinegar (splash- unless using leaves or petals)
Bring down to a simmer
Use paper to test color every 30 minutes or so
Simmer until it is desired vibrancy and color
Strain & add Clove or Wintergreen for preserving (Professional purpose: add Gum Arabic)
Store in fridge (for most inks)
BONUS: Add baking soda or soda ash (baked baking soda) or lime to alter and play with the colors!
