Now, however they are made in China, but the original Chia pets were so unprofitable because there was a middle man taking more than his share down in Mexico. Joe corrected this by working directly with the artisans making the terra cotta pets and Chia Pets have been turning a profit ever since.

That’s right, it wasn’t a pet at all- the first Chia was “Chia Guy” in 1977, with the first actual "pet” or animal being a sheep.

According to Joe, and his company, each primary election they create chia pet head inspired by the candidates. Year after year they have found which ever they sell the most of wins the election. CHIA PETS ARE GROWN FROM THE NOW COMMONLY KNOWN SUPER FOOD CHIA SEEDS
Chia seeds as we see them now in grocery stores are the seeds from Salvia hispanica better known as “Salvia” a species of purple flowering plant in the mint family.
CHIA PETS ACTUALLY SELL & ARE ONLY MARKETED DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON
That’s right! What seems like a thing of the past still manages to sell over 500,000 products a year, marketing mainly around the holidays as “gifts”. Chia Pets Commercials only run around the Holidays. They claim to “hibernate” the rest of the year.

Thats right! Both Chia Seeds and Chia Seed Sprouts (with added chlorophyll) are complete edible, delicious and among the most superior foods on the entire planet. HOWEVER- please do not eat the seeds that come in the package with your Chia Pet. These are admittedly not cleaned well, as they weren’t originally intended for consumption. If you choose to buy a small bag of organic Black Chia Seeds at the market or store, you can happily munch away!!
