WINTER CAUSE | Australian Wildfire Disaster
Australian Wild Bushfire Disaster
Threatens Sensitive Plant & Animal Ecosystems ALL across Australia, including its famous National Park “ Kangaroo Island National Park” on Victoria Island.
This is a topic that has captured a lot of our attention, as the devastating burning in Australia is the largest burn in history. It has burned millions of acres, and the long term effects are still unfathomable. It will take years for the repercussions of this tragedy to play out.
Australia is magical island of mystery on the face of this beautiful planet- and if you know anything about the flora and fauna endemic to this region, you can imagine how devastating a loss of these exotic species would be. You see, Australia has been bouncing around the ocean between Antarctica and South East Asia for Millions of years- and in doing so, has been through the most extreme climate changes one can imagine. As such, the plants, animals and beyond that call Australia home are some of the most unique and specialized on the planet. Australia boasts over 255 animal species that ONLY exist in Australia, as well as over 35,000 plant species that are 85% Native to the region. The plants and animals have been through a lot over the course of Australia’s history- but has never seen anything quite like this.
Regions used to burning are burning with an intensity that is destroying populations, and regions that have never burned are up in flames. Animals, who are too slow to outrun this speed and intensity are highly susceptible to population collapses. It is unknown what will come of the fires, even when the rain comes again, it is possible that the ash running off into rivers and oceans will affect the aquatic life.
Much is yet to be seen in Australia’s future- but one thing is very clear- WE CAN HELP, AND WE MUST.
Australia’s Wildfire Map
24,000,000+ Acres Have BURNED
“The whole concept of an ecosystem is about connectivity, across whole forests there are millions of individuals, and hundreds of different species in those forests that all rely on each other. And if you lose one, it’s like a link in a chain, you then lose the others that it is connected to.”
